Astor signs you in with Google. Press Continue with Google on the sign-in page and pick the account you want to use. We never see your Google password, and we ask for nothing from your Google account beyond your email address and name. A Google account whose email is not yet verified cannot sign in.
The macOS application used Sign in with Apple, and those sessions still work. That application is no longer being developed — everything new happens in the browser.
Most generation failures are temporary. Open the essay from Library and choose Resume or Retry; completed work is saved on this device. If no essays remain today, the quota resets at midnight UTC. If an error persists, write to support with the topic you tried.
Write to yask@astor.press with the subject line "delete my account" from the email you signed in with. We confirm by email and erase the server-side record within fourteen days.
You can also disconnect Astor from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. That severs the link from Google’s side; we’ll still need a note to delete the record on ours. (If you used the discontinued macOS application, the equivalent is System Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple → Astor.)
Astor is free during our research preview. We’re starting small: each account can create one essay per day and have one essay taught aloud as a lecture. Both allowances reset at midnight UTC.
Writing and reading work in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Lecture mode is not available in Safari; use Google Chrome on a Mac or PC. There is nothing to install. An internet connection is required throughout. Your volumes are stored in your browser, but there is no offline mode yet.
Your shelf lives in the browser you made it in, so a volume written on your laptop will not appear on your phone. We are working on that.
